This Privacy Policy explains how Clarity.fm (“Clarity.fm,” “we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you, and describes your rights regarding that information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide. When you create an account or use the Platform:
- Contact information (name, email address)
- Account credentials
- Profile information (bio, expertise, photo)
- Payment information (processed by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers)
- Communications with our support team
- Content you publish on your Channel (for experts)
1.2 Information We Collect Automatically. When you visit the Platform:
- Browser type, operating system, and device information
- IP address and approximate location
- Pages visited, time spent, and navigation patterns
- Referral sources
- Cookie data (see Cookie Policy)
1.3 Information From Third Parties. We may receive information from:
- Clerk (authentication provider)
- Stripe (payment status, not full payment details)
- Content platforms you connect to your Channel (RSS feeds, YouTube, etc.)
2. How We Use Your Information
2.1 To Operate the Platform: Manage accounts, process bookings and payments, power expert Channels and content discovery, and connect users with experts.
2.2 To Communicate With You: Booking confirmations and reminders, session follow-ups, subscription digests, and responses to your support requests.
2.3 To Improve the Platform: Analyze usage patterns to improve features and expert matching.
2.4 For Safety and Compliance: Detect and prevent fraud and abuse, comply with legal obligations, and enforce our Terms of Service.
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 Public Profile Information. Expert profiles and Channel content are public by default. Your name, bio, expertise, and Channel posts will be visible to anyone who visits your Channel or accesses it through search engines and AI systems.
3.2 Service Providers. We share information with service providers who help us operate the Platform, including: Stripe (payment processing), Resend (email delivery), Neon (database hosting), Vercel (hosting), Cloudflare (CDN and storage), Clerk (authentication), Anthropic (AI features), Daily.co (video sessions), Twilio (SMS), and Deepgram (transcription). All service providers are contractually required to protect your information.
3.3 Legal Requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request.
3.4 Business Transfers. If Clarity.fm is acquired or its assets transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred.
3.5 We Do Not Sell Your Data. Clarity.fm does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
We retain data according to the following schedule:
- Account and profile data: Duration of account + 2 years after closure
- Payment records: 7 years (legal requirement)
- Support communications: 3 years
- Usage and analytics data: 2 years
- Deleted account data: Removed within 30 days; may persist in encrypted backups for up to 90 days
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), access controls limiting employee access to personal data, regular security reviews, and incident response procedures. No security system is impenetrable. We will notify affected users promptly in the event of a data breach as required by applicable law.
6. Your Rights
6.1 General Rights. You have the right to know, access, correct, delete, restrict, and object to the processing of your personal data. Submit requests to: privacy@claritystudios.io
6.2 California Residents (CCPA). California residents have additional rights including the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and share, and the right to opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information). Contact: privacy@claritystudios.io
6.3 EEA, UK, and Swiss Residents (GDPR). If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under GDPR including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is contract performance and, where applicable, legitimate interest or consent.
7. Children’s Privacy
The Platform is not directed to individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us immediately at privacy@claritystudios.io.
8. International Data Transfers
Clarity.fm is based in the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers, including Standard Contractual Clauses where required by GDPR.
9. Changes to This Policy
We will notify you of material changes to this Privacy Policy by email (if you have an account) and by posting the updated policy with a new effective date. For significant changes, we will provide at least 30 days’ notice before the changes take effect.
